Aromatherapy can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It is an art and science that seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual realm of the individual's response to aromatic extracts. As a holistic practice, aromatherapy and aromatouch therapy are preventative and active methods employed during acute and chronic stages of illness or disease.
Though it is a non-invasive modality designed to affect a whole person, some oils, creams and even just the minute particles in the air can cause allergic reactions. Often, individuals do not know they have an allergy to a specific substance until they are introduced to it. Reactions can be as simple as a slight rash to more severe consequences, like anaphylaxis.
That's why the Alternative Therapy Association created the aromatherapy insurance program. Liability insurance can protect you from clients who have allergic reactions, as well as those who have injuries from slips and falls. It also may protect you if a client makes a claim and asks for financial reimbursement for injuries or loss of income they suffered as a result of your treatment.
Something else to consider if you make your own oils, lotions, etc. is product liability insurance. What happens when your customers take your product home and they have a reaction to it there? Our optional product liability coverage covers your liability for products you make and sell. Read more about this optional coverage here.
